4 Can’t-Miss Farmers Markets in OKC for Local Goodies
Picture this: It’s Saturday morning. You’re up early because you’re in your 30s and can’t sleep past 7 am. What a bummer. But wait! You remember there are fun things to do in the early morning.
FARMERS MARKETS, Y’ALL!
When I say I love a good market, I mean I LOVE A GOOD MARKET.
Indoor, outdoor, day, night, holiday, not holiday. 👏 count 👏 me 👏 in 👏👏👏
We have soooo many Farmers Markets in OKC so I’m going to help you decide which ones you must see. We love supporting small businesses, so really you should check them all out. But these are the ones I’ve personally vetted and I am a self-proclaimed OKC expert so you should listen to me.
I also know the OKC Farmers Market scene because I have worked at each of these markets several times. I moonlight (but during the day) selling spices for my friend, Kelsey, who is the owner of The Spice Girl Kitchen. So this list is not only from a consumer perspective but also from a vendor perspective!
One of the (pretty obvious) great things about checking out our local markets is supporting local businesses, which includes local farmers of course, and other businesses that either may or may not have the resources to open a brick-and-mortar store. So no matter which farmers market in OKC you choose to frequent, you’re still supporting your community, so YAY you!
Note: most of the farmers markets in OKC happen between April and October, so when I say “every” Saturday, I mean within farmers market season.
Let’s get into it.
Edmond Farmers Market
This market has quite literally everything. Local produce, meat, home decor, plants, gifts, flowers jellies, soaps… I could go on but I’ll let you check it out and see for yourself.
This is what I call the “Saturday routine market” because most of the people there go there every single week and shop the same vendors and get the same things. So if you are shopping for something specific, I would get there early before it sells out. Bread, meats, pastries, and flower bouquets tend to go the fastest.
They typically have a food truck if you’re (recklessly) shopping while hungry, and you can walk to a number of businesses in the Downtown Edmond area before or after you shop. So make a whole Saturday out of it! (PS. One of my FAVE coffee shops is within walking distance, so I highly suggest you check that out).
When: Every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm
Norman Farm Market
I don’t know what it is about this market but the **vibes** are IT. I honestly can’t explain that but I think it every time I’m there. It’s not super busy but not dead, people just seem to be happy while there, and there is such a wide variety of vendors and so much to look at.
They also usually have some type of non-profit organization there to talk about their mission, which I love. Last time I was there they had a blood drive. Talk about community!!
It’s also part indoor, part outdoor which is the best of both worlds, especially when it gets too hot outside to enjoy anything (looking at you, August).
They always have some sort of live entertainment featuring local musicians and artists.
When: Every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm
Scissortail Farmers Market
This market is not your average Farmers Market. Yes, there is fresh produce, bakery items, etc. that you would find at your typical farmers market in OKC, but it has so much more! So many gift items like soaps, candles, knives, plants, etc.
They always have at least one alcoholic beverage vendor (a mimosa truck is a frequent vendor, count me in), plus you get to walk around Scissortail Park so if you’re visiting OKC from out of town, that’s two touristy things in one. You’re welcome.
This market probably has twice the amount of vendors as most others do, so it’s really a great way to see and support a bunch of small Oklahoma businesses at once.
Because this event is at Scissortail Park, they always have some type of entertainment on the main stage near the market, so the kids can be entertained while you grab the necessities! Win-win!
When: Every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm
OKC Farmers Market
Local Okies will understand when I say “this market is indoors” and don’t elaborate further.
But seriously, this is one of the only indoor Farmers Markets in OKC and in August, you could truly be at risk being outside after 10 am some days. So if you’re super adamant about getting your groceries from the local farmers market, I’d suggest this one for some reprieve from the summer heat.
This market is also in a really cool and (IMO) underrated district of OKC. The Historic OKC Farmer’s Market building has been around for almost 100 years. It serves as an event center, hosting weddings, concerts, and, of course, the weekly Farmers Market.
There are also a ton of really cool businesses in the area to check out including an Antique Mall, plant nursery, and restaurants.
